June meeting – You be the Judge!

The meeting was all about finished quilts this month.

Firstly everyone enjoyed a second look at Stephanie’s ‘wild women’ quilt (we are still trying to work out who made the block on the top right…)

Next we had a detailed look at members’ quilts which had been entered at QuiltWest, with lots of discussion about techniques and our inspirations. Here are Sheila and Julie with their entries.

Roberta brought along two quilts made with fabric from her sister’s stash. These brought back happy memories of Moya, who was a much loved member of WAQA.

Meg gave a short demo on a clever way to foundation piece – follow the link here https://ourhousequilts.wordpress.com/2018/06/08/foundation-piecing-without-pain/

The activity was all about judging quilts with Sheila Pye and Phil Thomas, with the help of WAQA judging convenor, Cathie Gamble.

We all got so involved with looking at quilts and doing a mock judging session that we only remembered to take one photo! Hopefully everyone went away knowing something new about judging…
