July Meeting – Guest Speaker: Helen Jones

Quilt: Leading to Curiosity – Helen Jones

Christine Wheeler will be giving us an Introduction to Screen Printing to prepare us for her activity in August. She will tell us how to make a small screen as well as discussing stencils and resists. Everyone will be given an appropriate piece of fabric so that we can each make a screen at home for use in August.

For our main activity in July we’re delighted to welcome Helen Jones who will lead us through composition in design with a presentation and activities entitled “Where to put what??”. Helen is a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild and an artist who works in both paint and textiles. She has had a long career in art and design including teaching at South West TAFE, running a commercial textile business and selling her work, both paint and textile, through galleries and retail outlets around WA. Her most recent textile art exhibition, with three other artists, was Affinity which has just finished at Zig Zag gallery in Kalamunda. If you didn’t get there you missed a treat, we found it an inspiring and varied collection of work.

Materials required:
Cartridge paper or an A4 visual diary for drawing and notes. (We will have some cartridge paper available.)
Glue stick, Paper scissors and Pencil

Look forward to seeing you on 13th July. Don’t forget your show and tell including any quilts entered in QuiltWest (if you didn’t them bring last time).
